Legible Harm

Blood-scrawling and ascerbicism from Leigh Marble.

For all the things #Apple does right, #MobileMe is not one of them. I recently added a couple new contacts from my iPhone, and at some point soon thereafter, MobileMe spawned 24 (!) copies of each of them into my Address Book.

This bizarre act of computer rebellion also broke syncing with my laptop’s Address Book, which now insists that I replace MobileMe data with the contact info stored on the laptop… or else, “Fix Later”. Attempts to go the other way (replace my local address book with the MobileMe data), using System Preferences/MobileMe, seem to work at first. However, the same syncing error message returns.

Clearly, I’m not the only one seeing some of these issues - there’s a whole support page at Apple about fixing broken syncing. But seeing it spawn two dozen copies of a new contact is new to me, and that indicates that there’s a serious flaw somewhere in their syncing system.
